10 Best Destinations for Autumn Travel
When it’s Autumn in the Northern hemisphere (which is where I am currently living) I normally love to get away as the weather is generally milder, and depending on where you go you get to see some very characteristics landscapes. Also, all the summer tourists are gone and you get to better enjoy the places without all the crowds. Needless to say, below is a list of some beautiful places which will give you great inspiration for this next season’s holiday.
Luxemburg and Belgium
One of the best road trips you could do in Europe during this time of the year is to drive through Belgium and Luxembourg - or you can pick one of the two countries as well. I would suggest starting at Bruges, then Brussels and Luxembourg, and don't forget to enjoy the mussels, beer, chocolate and the foliage.
If you are looking for a place in the Mediterranean where you can still enjoy the beach, the best suggestion I can give is Cyprus, where you would still be getting a good amount of sunlight and the water is still warm, and of course without all the tourists.
Lake District, England
This area in England is famous for its beautiful landscape, now imagine it during the foliage, then you found a beautiful and romantic getaway. You can rent a cabin and get cozy with a beautiful view, or enjoy some outside activities.
New England, USA
Another very characteristic and glorious fall foliage is around the New England area in the US. Sometimes it even feels like it rains leaves when you are around the nature there and the colours are beautiful. Some interesting states you could visit is Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.
Now if you are trying to get away and enjoy a warmer (but not too warm) and dry weather, this is the best time to go to Zanzibar. The rain season is during March to May, then November again, so anywhere along these lines is the perfect time to visit this beautiful island with turquoise water on the coast of East Africa.
Autumn is also one of the best times to visit Italy as you can enjoy cities like Rome without big crowds, and it is also an interesting time where they go truffle and mushroom hunting, as well as grape harvesting, so you will find many food festivals around the smaller towns.
If you are looking for white sand beaches, turquoise water and Mayan ruins, fueled with a few glasses of margaritas, then Tulum Mexico is the perfect getaway. The weather is still warm but the hurricane season is gone, so this is the best time to visit this area in my opinion.
Prague, Czech Republic
The less number of tourists, the golden leafy atmosphere, and the hearty warm Czech food makes this the best time to visit this city. When you go don’t forget to have a meal with a view or listen to classical music at the Strings of Autumn festival that happens from September to November.
Japan's cherry blossoms are famous around the world, but the fall foliage in Kyoto is perhaps even more beautiful, with touches of dark red and yellow. Don’t forget to check out its gardens, temples and mountain spots for a beautiful snapshot of this time of the year.
When it’s Autumn in the Northern Hemisphere, it is Spring in the south so you will get to see beautiful gardens and enjoy mild weather in New Zealand, which I think is the best time to go. In addition, this is the time for penguin breeding, rich marine life, and lambing season, meaning you won’t be bored appreciating the animals and nature around you.
